UMUZI has a strong track record of supporting young people to access high-value ICT related careers.
Our objectives are to give our maths and coding recruits:
the ability they need to succeed at more advanced maths in university,
the requisite marks and qualification (the NSC) to access further opportunities,
an awareness of high-value career paths that they might want to pursue
the motivation, professional skills and tools to pursue these opportunities
In 2018, Umuzi ran two successful pilots:
1. A second chance maths programme and,
2. A web-development training programme.
Based on the success and learnings from these programmes, we have combined these programmes and will be expanding our pilot in 2019.
Criteria for acceptance into the UMUZI STEAM programme:
Wrote matric for the first time in 2016, 2017 or 2018
Achieved between 20 and 50% for Mathematics
Passed all other matric subjects - maths is your only barrier to progressing to further study or passing matric to gain employment.
